Kalusugan Ko, Kayamanan Ko

“Hunger is not an issue of charity, it’s an issue of justice.” — Jacques Diouf

Every year, in the month of July— Nutrition Month is being celebrated to raise awareness about the critical role of proper nutrition in our lives. The theme: “Food at Nutrution Security, Maging Priority! Sapat na Pagkain, Karapatan Natin!” It is a call to action, telling us to eat nutritious food is not a privilege, but a human right. It challenges us to look beyond personal plates and reconsider that larger issues of food security and malnutrition that affects our communities and especially our country.

In order to have that food security to be a priority. Our school celebrated this month’s Nutrition month— we prepared snacks with a touch of healthy nutritious foods. After that, as a class we participated in the Food Festival, and sold a bunch of foods we prepared. Then, some of our classmates joined the Nutrijingle—they performed an original song and won first place, we are so proud! At the end of the celebration, we did what we could in order to prioritize the food security in our school and in our nation.

Through these events, we were encouraged to take a collective and urgent stand to ensure that every Filipino has the opportunity to live a healthy, productive life—free from the burdens of hunger and malnutrition. Let us embrace this month as a time to learn, to act, and to build a future where a healthy diet is a reality for all.
